Yesterday I decided to fill the car up with fuel in preparation for the Bridge of Allan show that I’m going to tomorrow. I also need to pop into the adjacent supermarket for a few wee things. When I park, I haven’t even stopped the engine, when there’s a man at the driver’s door asking if it’s an Impala. Turns out he had a ’58 Impala when he lived in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe for our younger readers) and hasn’t seen one for donkey’s years. This leads to a conversation while he looks around the car.
Half-way through that, another younger guy comes over and take a fair amount of photos. I had forgotten what it’s like using this car to go shopping! No I hadn’t… it’s great though!
So today, I set off early for the show. There’s always a queue to get in, so it’s advisable to get there early.
Unfortunately, everybody else has had the same idea. Also, the Council or Scottish Gas or somebody, have decided that this, the busiest Sunday on the wee quiet access road, is the ideal opportunity to dig up half of it, and put in temporary traffic signals. Cretins.
After a half-hour queue, I am finally in!
I park up among the “1950s” exhibits, but there’s not another Yank car in sight. The VW Camper next to me is left hand drive and imported from California, so does that count?
On one of the Club stands, I find the 1947 Chrysler that was the other wedding car for the wedding I did last August, and have a chat with him. I also find a couple of Trans-ams and a Camaro.
I also find a Hillman Imp with a BMW engine of some description in the back.
There are a lot of interesting cars here, plenty to see and do, although I spend at least half the day talking to folk at my own car, between bouts of grazing through my packed lunch.
It’s a grand old day out, but soon it’s time to head home. At least there’s no big queue to get out! Like last time, the car just cruises home, no worries.
After I get home, I let it cool for a bit and then take out that No 7 plug for a look. Again, it’s a wee bit oily but certainly not as bad as it was - all that idling and queuing would have completely clogged it before!
